ADKT Media respects your privacy
Your privacy matters, seriously. This page explains what information ADKT Media collects, why it’s collected, and how it’s handled. I keep things minimal, transparent, and secure. No shady tracking, no data selling, no hidden fine print, just the basics needed to run the site and share meaningful work. If you’re curious, it’s all laid out below.
1. Who I Am
ADKT Media is a personal publishing platform operated solely by me, Ash Dakota. I’m an independent filmmaker, photographer, and designer based in the UK, and ADKT Media serves as the home for my original creative work, including short films, visual essays, design experiments, and other self-directed projects. This site was created as a space to present and share that work in a focused, intentional environment, without distraction or commercial interference.
As the sole operator of this platform, I am fully responsible for the handling of any personal data collected through this website. I take that responsibility seriously. While the scope of data I collect is minimal, I remain committed to transparency and integrity in how that information is managed. Whether you’re signing up to a newsletter, viewing embedded content, or simply browsing the site, I aim to ensure your experience is respectful, secure, and free from invasive practices.
If you have any questions about how your data is used, or just want to get in touch, you can reach me directly at hello@adktmedia.com. You won’t be routed through a support team or an automated response system. It’s just me on the other end, ready to respond personally and professionally.
2. What I Collect
While I don’t actively seek to collect personal data beyond what’s necessary, a small amount of information may be gathered during your interaction with this site, either directly, or automatically through the services used to run it smoothly.
Actively Provided:
• Email address. When you subscribe to a newsletter or contact me via a form.
• Message content. Anything you choose to send through a form or direct email.
Passively Collected:
• IP address and device data. Collected by web analytics tools like Google Analytics (to help me understand traffic, page views, etc.)
• Browser type/Location. Session duration standard usage data used to improve user experience.
• Cookies. small data files stored on your device. Some help the site function (e.g. remembering preferences); others relate to analytics or embedded media (see below).
• Embedded content. Videos from platforms like YouTube or Vimeo may set their own cookies when viewed or interacted with.
3. Why I Collect It
The information collected through this site is minimal and intentional. I only collect what’s necessary to keep things working, stay in touch with those who’ve asked to hear from me, and gain a general understanding of how the site is used. When you send a message through a contact form or sign up for a mailing list, I use your contact information strictly to respond or deliver those updates. I don’t use it for advertising, targeting, or retargeting, and I’ll never sell or share it for those purposes.
On the technical side, anonymized data like device type, IP address, or general location may be collected through standard analytics tools such as Google Analytics. This helps me understand which parts of the site people visit, what they interact with, and where things might be broken or ignored. I use this information only to improve the overall experience and make decisions about how I design or share my work. Your data isn’t here to benefit an algorithm. It’s here to help me understand how real people engage with my creative output.
4. Cookie Use & Consent
Cookies are small pieces of information stored on your device when you browse most websites, including this one. I use a limited set of cookies to support basic site functionality, help with performance tracking, and enable media embeds (like YouTube or Vimeo). Some cookies are placed by services I use, such as Google Analytics for anonymized visitor metrics, or YouTube when a video is viewed, while others may relate to your interactions, like accepting cookie notices or submitting a form.
No cookies on this site are used to target you with ads, track you across unrelated websites, or gather deeply personal data. I don’t have interest in that, and I deliberately avoid integrating any tools that do. You can control or block cookies through your browser settings at any time, and by continuing to browse the site, you’re consenting to this limited and respectful use of cookies. If I add any new tools that set cookies, I’ll update this policy accordingly.
5. Legal Basis for Processing
In compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK-GDPR, all data collected on this site is processed on a lawful basis. Most commonly, this basis is consent, for example, when you actively choose to sign up to a newsletter, submit a message, or accept cookies. That means I only collect or use your personal information when you’ve explicitly agreed to it.
In some cases, I may also rely on what is called legitimate interest. This applies to anonymized analytics and performance tracking that helps me maintain and improve the site. These tools are used solely to evaluate how the site is being used, identify any issues, and optimize the content or structure to serve visitors better. You have the right to withdraw consent at any time and can do so by contacting me directly. If any lawful basis ever changes, I will make that clear in this document and give you options accordingly.
6. Data Retention
I believe in only keeping data for as long as it’s needed. No longer. If you sign up for the mailing list, your email address is stored until you choose to unsubscribe, at which point it is removed from the list and any associated databases. If you contact me directly via a form or email, I may retain that message for up to two years, in case it’s helpful to refer back to or respond to. After that, it’s deleted unless there’s a specific reason to keep it longer (e.g. legal compliance, ongoing conversation, etc.).
Analytics data, such as anonymized IP addresses or device types, is stored by Google Analytics according to their standard data retention settings, typically between 14 and 26 months. This data isn’t personally identifying and is used only to understand general traffic patterns. If you ever want me to remove your data, or check if I’ve retained anything at all, just send a request to hello@adktmedia.com, and I’ll take care of it promptly.
7. Data Sharing & Third Parties
I do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers, marketers, or third-party organizations for profit. That’s not what this space is for. However, to make this site functional and secure, a few trusted third-party services are used to process limited information, always for a clear and specific reason.
For example, Google Analytics is used to gather anonymous data about how visitors use the site. Vimeo or YouTube may collect basic viewing data when you watch an embedded video, and if I use a newsletter platform like MailerLite or Substack, they may store your email address securely to allow me to send occasional updates. These services are used solely to support the functionality of the site or improve the user experience. They do not access or process your information for their own marketing purposes, and I only work with providers that meet strong data protection standards. If this ever changes, it will be reflected in this policy immediately.
8. Data Security
While no website can guarantee perfect security, I take every reasonable step to protect the data shared with me. This includes securing the website with HTTPS encryption (so that all traffic between your browser and the server is encrypted), hosting the site on a secure and reputable platform, and avoiding the use of unnecessary or invasive plugins and integrations.
I also use strong, regularly updated passwords for all accounts associated with the site, and where available, I use two-factor authentication. Since I’m the only person with access to this information, there’s no internal chain of permissions or third-party staff handling data. If, despite these measures, a security breach were to occur, I would notify affected users promptly and take immediate steps to investigate and resolve the issue.
9. Your Rights
Under data protection law, including both the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK-GDPR) and its EU counterpart, you have several important rights concerning your personal data. These include the right to access the personal data I hold about you, the right to correct or update it if something’s wrong or outdated, and the right to have it erased if there’s no longer a valid reason for me to keep it.
You also have the right to object to or restrict how your data is processed, to withdraw consent at any time (particularly for things like newsletters), and to receive a copy of your data in a portable format if you request it. If you believe I’ve mishandled your information, you’re also entitled to lodge a complaint with the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at any time. However, I’d always prefer to resolve things directly, so if you have concerns, please email me at hello@adktmedia.com and I’ll respond as quickly and thoughtfully as I can.
10. Children
This site and the work it features are not intended for children under the age of 13, and I do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone in that age group. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that a child has submitted personal information through the site, please contact me immediately so I can delete the data and ensure it isn’t retained or processed further. While the content on ADKT Media is generally appropriate for a wide audience, the site itself is not designed to collect or manage data from minors.
11. Updates to this Policy
As ADKT Media evolves, whether I add new features, introduce new platforms, or change the way I present or distribute work, this privacy policy may need to be updated. When that happens, the “Effective Date” at the top of this page will change to reflect the latest version, and the new version will be made available here.
I recommend checking back occasionally if you want to stay informed about how your data is handled. I won’t send policy update emails unless a major shift occurs, and I promise not to bury changes in fine print. Transparency is the goal here, and if anything ever feels unclear, just ask.
8. Data Security
If you’ve made it this far, thank you. I care about privacy because I care about how people experience my work, quietly, respectfully, and without interference. If you ever have questions about how your data is used, or want to make a request related to any part of this policy, I’m just one email away.
